Meet Susan Hawk, Albuquerque Dog Trainer

I'm Susan Hawk, the founder of The Canine Coach here in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and the creator of The Relationship First Method™. I work with a small number of families at a time, one on one, so every dog gets my full attention.

I came to dog training because of a dog of my own who needed something different. That experience taught me that the best training isn't about forcing behavior — it's about understanding what's underneath it.

I'm certified through the CCPDT and continue studying with leading behaviorists, so my methods are grounded in science, not guesswork. But the real work happens in your living room, on your walks, and in the moments where your dog is struggling most.

That's why I come to you. Whether we're starting with puppy training, building everyday obedience, working through reactivity or fear, earning off-leash freedom, or coaching you right at home with in-home training, we train in the environment where your dog actually lives — not in a classroom that looks nothing like real life.
