Frequently Asked

Questions, answered.

A few of the things families ask me most often. If you don't see your question here, please reach out.

What does the free consultation include?
A one-hour visit in your home where I'll meet you and your dog, learn about your goals, discuss the challenges you're facing, review what you've already tried, and outline a clear path forward. There's no pressure or obligation—just an opportunity to see if we're the right fit for each other.
What types of dog training does The Canine Coach offer in Albuquerque?
I offer private, in-home dog training throughout Albuquerque and surrounding areas, including puppy training, obedience training, behavior modification for reactivity and anxiety, and off-leash recall training. Every program is personalized to your dog and built around The Relationship First Method™.
Do you offer private in-home dog training?
Yes. Almost all of my training happens in your home, on your walks, and in the places where your dog lives and learns every day. Dogs learn best in the environments where they'll actually use those skills, which is why I bring the training to you. Learn more about my In-Home Training program.
Do you offer puppy training?
Yes. I work with puppies starting around eight weeks old, focusing on house manners, socialization, confidence, and the first skills that make daily life easier — all while building a strong relationship from the start. Learn more about my Puppy Training program.
Do you offer off-leash and reliable recall training?
Yes. Off-Leash Freedom training is designed for dogs ready to build a reliable recall and enjoy trails, parks, and open spaces together. We focus on communication, trust, and real-world reliability so your dog can have more freedom while staying safe.
Can you help with a reactive or fearful dog?
Yes. Behavior modification is one of my specialties. I work with dogs experiencing reactivity, fear, and anxiety at a pace they can successfully handle, helping them build confidence while addressing the emotion behind the behavior.
How much does dog training cost?
Every dog and every family is different, so pricing depends on the program that's the best fit for your goals and your dog's needs. During your free consultation, I'll recommend a personalized training plan and clearly explain the investment before you make any decisions. There's never any pressure or obligation to move forward.
How many sessions will my dog need?
Every dog learns at a different pace, so the number of sessions depends on your goals, your dog's current behavior, and the consistency of practice between visits. Most programs include weekly coaching over six to twelve weeks, with additional support available whenever it's needed. During your free consultation, I'll recommend the program that best fits you and your dog.
Where do sessions take place?
Almost all of my work happens in your home, on your walks, and in the places where your dog lives and learns every day. Dogs learn best in the environments where they'll use those skills, which is why I bring the training to you.
What areas do you serve?
I proudly serve Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, Corrales, Santa Fe, and many surrounding communities with in-home dog training. I also travel to select areas of the East Mountains. If you're unsure whether you're within my service area, just reach out. If I can't help you, I'll do my best to connect you with a trusted trainer closer to you.
What ages of dogs do you work with?
From eight-week-old puppies to senior dogs. It's never too early to start building a strong foundation, and it's never too late to help a dog learn, grow, and succeed.
What is The Relationship First Method™?
The Relationship First Method™ is the foundation of everything we do. It means training begins with trust, clear communication, and understanding — not just commands. When your dog trusts you and knows what to expect, obedience becomes more reliable and the results last.
Do you use treats or corrections?
Every dog is different, so every training plan is customized to the individual dog, their temperament, and the goals we are working toward. At The Canine Coach, training begins with The Relationship First Method™—building trust, communication, clarity, and confidence between you and your dog. Rather than relying on a single technique or philosophy, we select the tools and teaching methods that best support each dog while ensuring owners understand how to communicate clearly and consistently. Our goal isn't simply to teach behaviors—it's to create a relationship that lasts a lifetime. During your consultation, we'll discuss your dog's personality, your goals, and the training approach that will best support both of you.
What is The Dog Nanny™ and who qualifies?
The Dog Nanny™ is an exclusive, members-only concierge care program for dogs who have completed a Canine Coach training program. It includes continued training, adventure walks, exercise days, boarding support, and vacation care — all from the trainer your dog already knows. Membership is by invitation and limited to a small number of graduate families, so your dog keeps moving forward even when life gets busy.
Do you offer group classes?
Seasonal group classes are planned for the spring and fall when the weather is ideal for outdoor training. Until then, I focus on one-on-one coaching so every training plan can be tailored to you, your dog, and your goals.
Do you work alongside veterinarians?
Absolutely. I believe training works best when everyone is working toward the same goal. When appropriate, I'm happy to collaborate with your veterinarian or a veterinary behaviorist to make sure we're addressing your dog's needs from every angle.
